This Does Not Bode Well
TDNBW was borne out of a desire to expand a middle manager’s rants on LinkedIn about the way the post-pandemic corporate landscape emerged. Mandated RTO became the norm - despite employee pushback - and white collar workers were returning to open office plans in empty downtowns. Corporate culture - a nebulous concept to begin with - had been gutted by Covid and companies struggled (and continue to struggle) to bring it back.
As we begin to settle back into what constitutes a routine post-Covid, TDNBW digs into current events around office life and age-old conundrums that still confound leaders today. A mix of advice for junior employees, perspective for senior ones, and a lot of sitcom references in between, This Does Not Bode Well aims to illuminate and work through what ails the modern office and those lucky enough to inhabit it.

Matt Kane is an SVP in analytics at a large holding company-owned ad agency in New York City. He’s on his third career and has stuck with advertising because it hits the sweet spot: it pays his bills and doesn't completely suck. When he’s not lamenting about his commute or dreaming up ways to undo open office plans on Substack, he is husband to his long-suffering wife (to be fair, she’s the one who said yes) and father to two rambunctious toddlers in Westchester County, New York.
